		<description>For thousands of years, Korean Ginseng, also known as lixir of life has been used in Chinese medicine for promoting vitality and maintaining an equlibrium: homeostasis of the body. The first record of prescription of ginseng as a medical herb appeared as early as A.D. 456-536 in one of the oldest and most revered oriental medicine books, the Shen-Nung Pen-Tso-Ching (Shen Nung Pharmacopoeia). The term Ginseng (Jenshen) in Chinese is derived from Jen) and essence(shen), meaning the essence of the man or of the earth. However, ginseng is called In-Sam in Korea which means (In) and (Sam), which simply means man-shaped plant. Its scientific name is Panax Ginseng C.A. Meyer named after a Russian botanist Carl Anton who in 1843 launched the first research on ginseng components.From the ancient times only Korean ginseng has been used medicinally, whereas several other Panax species have become in sud in recent days. Eleutherococcus senticosus does not belong to the genus Panax, but it is called Siberian ginseng only to take ride on the popularity of Korean ginseng.Types of Korean GinsengSaengsam  Saengsam is the raw ginseng that is 4 to 6 years old. Since it holds intact substances the substances unique to ginseng, it is best when taken raw. It can be ground and taken with honey and milk or used as an ingredient for a variety of dishes.  Baeksam (White Ginseng)  Baeksam, known as White Ginseng, is sun-dried in original form made by paring 4 to 6 year-old Saengsam and drying in the sun to dehydrate to less than 14%. Baeksam can be stored for a long period of time and is mainly used for making medicines and tea.- JiksamRefers to ginseng dried in its straight form without bending the body - BangoksamRefers to ginseng dried in a half-folded form - GoksamThis bent ginseng is dried with the body completely rolled into a circle. - MisamThe dried rootlets remaining from processing of ginseng Taegeuksam This is a product in-between Hongsam and Baeksam. It is made by soaking Saengsam in hot water for a certain period of time to form gelatine from the epidermis to a certain depth of the body, then drying it in the straight form. The color and efficacy of Taegeuksam is similar to that of Hongsam.  Hongsam (Red Ginseng) Hongsam, Red Ginseng, is made by drying steamed Susam to draw out yellowish dark brown coloration. According to quality, Hongsam is classified into Cheonsam, Jisam and Yangsam. Long-term preservation of Hongsam is possible. Even those who demonstrate hypersensitive reactions to ginseng will have absolutely no problem when taking Hongsam. Hongsam is also found to be effective against AIDS, dioxin and other new diseases. For best results, Hongsam should be taken for an extended period of time in diverse forms such as extract, powder, capsule and tea.</description>
